Once again this year, Akinox participated in the 6th edition of the Informatique Santé Symposium at the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Center. This event brings together IT managers and executives, as well as information resource departments (IRDs) from the health network and also private sector organizations interested in health information technology.
Our team was present all day to discuss new trends in health technologies and to meet our partners and collaborators. Besides the presence of our experts at the Akinox booth to answer questions from participants, we had the opportunity to present a workshop on the virtual care platform developed by Akinox, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services entitled “The Virtual Care Provincial Platform : an Opportunity to Build Together the Future of Digital Health.”
Due to its success, the workshop was given to a full house in the Plenary Room of the Convention Center. Hosted by Tania Gobeil, our speaker and business analyst, and Alexander Dahl, president and founder of Akinox, in collaboration with Ms. Isabelle Poulin, director of IT project execution at the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the workshop recalled the technological vision of the platform, with its functionalities and expected benefits, before presenting the progress made with a video demonstration, and finally unveiling the promising results obtained so far.
Indeed, the objectives of the first phase of the project were, among others, to improve the management of dermatology patients and to promote collaboration and information sharing between general practitioners and dermatologists. These objectives were quickly achieved, thanks to the deployment of asynchronous teleconsultations which allowed better accessibility to dermatological consultations and the transmission of photos and clinical information to specialists by requesting doctors. In order to simplify the daily life of healthcare professionals, operational dashboards have been implemented and are very easy to use. They have also been designed to give greater autonomy to patients through easy access to an intuitive portal.
Regarding the results, thanks to the virtual care platform, nearly 90% of patients feel better informed about their health and nearly 50% of users say they have avoided a clinic visit. Also, more than 1,000 teleconsultations requests have been made since the launch, the majority of which were processed within 7 to 14 days by dermatologists. Lastly, approximately 1.2 billion kilometers of travel distance was avoided, thanks to teleconsultations, resulting in a reduction of nearly 330,000 tons of carbon emissions.
“With the highly secure platform acquired by the Ministry of Health and Social Services, some well-targeted clinical information and some well-taken clinical photos, that's enough for dermatologists to be able to make a diagnosis and suggest a course of action to the doctor who, himself, assessed the patient.”
Dr. Dominique Hanna, President of Québec Association of Dermatologists

Very close to the concerns of managers and professionals, the Informatique Santé Symposium aims primarily to put forward the best ways to adopt best practices in terms of project deployment in the network. It also promotes those good practices that can be implemented in the field, leading to concrete results in the short and medium term. This symposium is intended for managers and professionals interested in the major innovative information technology (IT) projects that affect the Health and Social Services network. Every year, this event aims to propose practice models that can be deployed in the context of rapid digital transformation, and changes that are expected in the coming months and even years.
